A tagging system is needed that will help me track down, information that I have mined over the years, for use when I need it. This initial footprint aided me in quickly identifying information and using it right away, yet it did not offer any long-term growth. This method needs to be expanded to continue aiding my growth beyond a thirty or ninety day cycle. I need something that is slow release and continues to feed my growth.

Identifying Resources

There is a lot of materials out there to be read or listened to for personal growth and development. Yes, they all benefit me in one way or another, yet I need to be selective with the choice morsels that I consume. They need to be inline with my goals and objectives. They need to aid me in my growth. They need to help me short and long term.

What can I take away from this information?
How can this information help me at work? with my family? or my personal life?
Would some of my friends and family enjoy hearing or reading this information?
Identifying with Writer

I need to understand a bit about the writer of a piece of information. I am not concerned with their educational pedigree as much as what they can offer me through their experience or life lessons.

What point is the writer attempting to convey?
What motivated the writer?
What can be gleaned from this writing?
Identifying Points

If I am going to read or listen to something, it might be best to have a glance at the material. I need to get a feel for the high points and how they might apply to my life. If possible, maybe read some reviews of the material. Check out the index and maybe the resources that went into the production of this information. In the end, I really want to have a feel for the writer and the information that is being conveyed.

What are the key points of the information?
Did I notice any quotes from others?
What people were used in reference during the writing?

Its best to jot down a few words that come to mind after or while investigating the information.

In order to quickly recall or look up, I need to have a reference system. A method to the madness! I need to be able to read and collect information for future reference.

Application of the information is key. Where will I be able to apply this information? Work, Family, or Personal

Who will this information be useful? Will I be able to apply it to myself? Will it be useful to or help me relate to others? Will it help me relate to God?

What actions are needed to be taken with this information? Do I need to think about the idea that is being presented? Do I need to apply the idea or concept right away to my life? What if the idea sounds good, yet it does not really fit into my life? Maybe I should modify it a bit to work better with myself?

Legend

Here is tagging system version 2.0. No, it is not perfect, yet it does offer me some additional information that can help me catalog information.

[Application | Who | Action]

Application: Work, Personal, Family
Who: God, Others, Myself
Action: Think, Apply, Modification

Example:

While in a key section of a book, I can take notes out to the side of the section.

I can put a [W|O|A] next to a section that is applicable at work and with regards to others and this though is ready for application. Obviously, most things will need a bit of tweaking in order for them to be implemented in work or anywhere for that matter.
